Other attendees: Tracy Shimko, Steve Murphy, Lita Flanders, and Marina Meniatis.

  1. Minutes
  2. Reading of the April and May Meeting Minutes was waived and the minutes were approved as read.

  3. Old/Continuing Business
  4. Bookkeeper's Report: May financials were presented. Jennie discussed upcoming expenses.

Tree Dedication: No further developments, Dawn Chesney was not present. Jennie will follow up with Dawn to get resolution to the date of installation of the tree and plaque.

Speed Trailer: Still no further updates, Toby has given up on the speed trailers. In his capacity he is slowing people down and his partner has been using a radar gun to slow people down. There have been other officers ticketing in the village.

Garage Sale 2001: The garage sale netted approximately $1300 which will be the budget for the annual picnic. There was only one complaint that there were no hot dog sales but the hot dog sales have shown a loss in the past few years so it was decided to stop having hot dog sales. It was suggested that the bake sale could be expanded. Perhaps it could be included in the flyer that goes out for people to put items on the curb that they could bake something and bring it to the garage sale. Another suggestion was that larger items such as whole cakes and pies be sold at the bake sale as well.

Website: Website is up and running at www.sheffieldvillage.org. Carole DeLozier has done a wonderful job and we have received many praises. It was discussed that perhaps we should not have the "recommendations" section in case other villagers use a recommended service and are not happy with it, it could open us up for liability. Brian will look into it further.

Steve Murphy: Parks/Open Areas Update: In Milford Park there is a gap between the retaining wall and the tennis court that Steve fears may cause a hazard. He is looking for a carpenter to volunteer to help seal the gap. It may need some sort of railing. Also the stairs in the park need a railing. Steve will contact Mac Davis, a village resident who is a licensed contractor, to revisit the bid Mac gave us for a railing and perhaps for the sealing of the gap at the retaining wall. The board agreed to visit the site with Steve to determine what steps should be taken.

There is now a trash can at the Covington Circle.

People have been using the doggie bags in Onset Park but have been leaving filled bags in the park instead of disposing of the bags. Also vandals have pulled a lot of the bags and draped them around the pole. Denise has been disposing of left bags and checking the supply regularly - the supply is getting low. Toby will distribute keys to the dispensers to the board members, and will refill the dispensers as needed.

Sheffield Village Crier: Villager Maria Parker has shown an interest in the Editor position. She is unable to attend many board meetings. It was agreed that we would ask her for a writing sample and list of computer skills as well as give her an unedited Crier issue to get her input as to any changes she would do. Marina suggested we contact Catherine Chriss to see if she has any ideas of other interested parties. Deni agreed to contact Catherine. Brian will contact Maria to find out what availability she would have in attending ANY board meetings. Three members of the board will meet with Maria to interview her for the position.

The delivery of the last issue of the Crier went well. 15 out of 26 block captains delivered to their blocks. Jill agreed to poll those who participated to see if they would be willing to do it every month (ten issues a year). Lita, Steve and Tracy all volunteered to cover any blocks not covered by block captains in the future.

  5. New Business
  6. Picnic 2001: The date is set for August 11th. Nancy Zee had reserved the park that day for a birthday party but graciously offered to reschedule for the picnic. Jill will head up the picnic committee. Jill and Jennie will meet with Gale to find out what needs to be done. Susanna Oto has volunteered to head up the kids' games, Lita volunteered to coordinate the potluck, Rich Palmer has agreed to do the grilling again. Tracy wants to have a mask/drama time for kids to participate in. Denise will ask Perry and others about music alternatives. Jennie will contact Jim Nelson regarding the grill borrowed from Alameda County. Toby will ask for representatives from the Police Dept, Fire Dept, and Zoo for that day. Realtor Carolyn Mettleman has offered to sponsor a childrens' fingerprinting/photo booth, and Realtor Gail Manfredi has offered to sponsor the Bounce House again. It was suggested that we get another realtor to sponsor a magician or balloon animal person.

Mayor Brown invitation: Jerry Brown has shown an interest in attending a board meeting and addressing any neighborhood concerns. It was agreed that the October 23rd board meeting would be a good meeting to aim for. Jill agreed to call his office and arrange for him to come. She will also invite him to the picnic.

New Golf Course renovation: One of the citizens' groups against the KSL project have raised enough money to match the City money to renovate the Chabot Golf Course. They do not propose much movement of any earth but only to reshape one of the holes and build a new building to use with the existing building. Brian will keep an eye on the project, but it sounds like good news at the moment.

Welcome committee: Deni announced that the "welcome committee" has been mainly made up of herself for the past year or so and some new homeowners have fallen through the cracks. It was suggested that semi-annually a small get together be given by the board to the most recent newbies. It was also suggested that all of the new homeowners since January be personally invited to the picnic and welcomed by the president. Jennie will put invitations together and send them out a few weeks before the picnic. It was also suggested that we arrange some sort of get together for original owners at some point.

Bookkeeper applicant: Jennie received an email from an Upper Village resident interested in the bookkeeper position. It was agreed that a resident of Cranford qualifies as a village resident for the bookkeeper position. The applicant may not be able to attend board meetings, Jennie will find out how many meetings he could attend. Jennie and Dale will meet with the applicant when Dale gets back from vacation.

Rec Center Advisory Committee: Michelle Fulper asked that the Advisory committee get moving as she needs the support. Jill agreed to call Brian Kelly and get things going.

The meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
