Meeting commenced at 10:08 a.m.

Other attendees: Lynn Goldflam, Matt Cronin, Janice Jorgenson, Chris Barker, Sue & Don Doer, Joyce Herzer, Brenda Lynn Goodall, Nancy Hines, Jen & Dave Frick, Mark Lee, Lita Flinders, Carole Delozier, Dawn Chesney, Ken Pimentel, and Lt. Mike Yoell.

The reading of the minutes from the 2001 Annual meeting was waived.

Special Presentation: Lt. Mike Yoell from the Oakland Police Department made a special presentation regarding the new area patrol officers. We will no longer have community policing officers assigned to different beats. Now each beat Officer is a Community Police Officer. Each car will be equipped  with a cell phone for non-emergencies. They hope to build each beat up to 10-12 officers but they are currently short staffed. Villagers posed some questions to Lt. Yoell for further explanation of the new system.

Old Business:

2001 Financials- Jen Frick submitted the 2001 financials which were approved by the board members present.

Review of 2001 Accomplishments and Recognition of Volunteers- various board members described the accomplishments of the year including:

New Website created for SVHOA; Chabot Golf Course defeat; Garage sale success; new Scholarship Program instituted; Annual Picnic success; Mayor Jerry Brown visit to SVHOA meeting in October; Holiday Village Caroling; update on Parks maintenance; and congratulations to Blight Fighters.

Continuing Business:

Sheffield Village Crier- we still do not have a paid editor in position and Brian has agreed to continue to volunteer to edit/write the Crier for the next year. Special thanks to Josh Muller for delivery of the Crier. Discussion was raised as to the number of ads in the Crier but no decision was reached.

Gale Grunert Dinner- a dinner to honor former Crier Editor, Gale Grunert, will be held at Jake’s Lion later this month. Villagers may sign up to attend with the reservation sheets provided.

Crime Prevention Program- see “Special Presentation”

Block Captain Meeting- we hope to beef up the Village Block Captain program with a meeting later in the year for existing Block Captains and anyone who may want to be a Block Captain.

Property Tax Error- Villagers were charged a tax for the Oakland School District in error on their 2001-2002 property tax bills. We are currently working with Larry Reid’s office as well as Donald White’s office to rectify the matter. The phone number of the contact person to receive your tax refund will be provided.

Rec. Center Advisory Committee- Villagers are encouraged to participate in the Rec. Center Advisory Committee to be involved in programs at our center.

New Business:

2002 Budget- the budget to 2002 was presented by Treasurer Jennie Brick. It was moved, seconded and approved by the board of directors.

Recognition and Awards- the SVHOA is grateful for all the Villagers who help out throughout the year, and we are truly fortunate to live in a community where so many people help to keep it a wonderful place to live. While there are many individuals who have helped all year long, the board awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award to Carole Delozier for her continued help in developing, creating and updating the Village Website.

Comments from retiring board members- Toby Abom and Denise Hodges were given gifts for all of their efforts during their tenure as members of the SVHOA Board of Directors.

Nomination, Election, and Installation of New Board Members- it was moved, seconded and approved to postpone the election of new board members until the next meeting as the two candidates (Gail Rappl and Matt Cronin) were not present at that time.

Other Business- no other new business was presented.

At 12:40 p.m. the meeting adjourned
