  6. Megan's Law Meeting: Brian suggested that we call the OPD to obtain more flyers regarding David Bearden and more Megan's Law pamphlets and distribute them to block captains for Villagers to obtain. Brian will do an article about the seminar and will try and get the OPD to do an additional seminar for kids. Matt volunteered to contact the parole officer involved to see what we can do legally to encourage Mr. Bearden to leave the Village. Matt agreed to explore all legal avenues toward this end. Jill encouraged the board to put equal attention to educating Villagers and our children. Brian will write a thank you letter to the OPD and Dara Wiseman for organizing the Megan's Law seminar. Garage Sale Status: The annual garage sale will take place on Saturday, June 1st from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the clubhouse. Steve Bettcher still need volunteers, especially one more truck for the loading on May 31st. Brian will include an article in the next Crier and the flyer for donations will be in the May Crier.

Annual Picnic Committee: Gail, Jill, Jennie, Lita Flinders, and Janice Jorgenson will be meeting on April 25th at Gail's house to discuss this year's Village event. Easter Egg Hunt: All agreed the this year's Easter Egg Hunt was a huge success and Susanna Oto agreed to write an article for the Crier. The board agreed to officially thank the Otos for the event. Parks Update-stairway, clearing, city notices etc.: The board received a notice from he City of Oakland regarding removing brush in Onset Park and Covington Circle. It was discussed that only Onset Park is owned by SVHOA and Matt had received a bid of $425 from Tom's Landscaping to do the job. It was moved, seconded and approved that the SVHOA hire Tom's Landscaping to do the brush removal at Onset Park. Matt also reported that the stairway was completed at Milford Park and Tom's Landscaping did a good job.

Potential Dunsmuir Housing Development: Brian passed out recent emails from neighboring HOAs regarding the proposed housing development. Larry Reid's office said that if the neighborhood HOAs opposed the development then Mr. Reid would have the council oppose it as well. Currently there is nothing for the SVHOA to do but voice our support for the surrounding HOAs. Brian will ask Pat Mossburg of Larry Reid's office to keep us apprised of any activity. San Leandro Library: Gail followed up on last months request regarding obtaining free library cards for the Village. She was informed the all San Leandro students receive free library cards already and that the library is not funded by the school taxes therefore the library would not agree to free library cards for Villagers. Gail has informed Villager Donald Kempton who made the original request of the outcome.

Gale Grunert's request regarding Brian Kelly: It was motioned, seconded and approved that the Crier would run a farewell article to the Brian Kelly family; that the SVHOA would present a framed Certificate of Appreciation to Brian Kelly at his going away party; and that there would be a farewell cartoon in a future Crier issue.

  7. New Business
  8. New Building Plans: Plans Chair Gail presented a set of plans submitted by a Villager for a home remodel at 14 Danbury. All proper permits have been obtained by the homeowner and the homeowner has spoken with all of the neighbors regarding the proposed remodel. Board members voiced concerns about the new chimney as to what type it would be and would it match other chimneys in the neighborhood. The plans did not specify the type of chimney. The board agreed to vote via email once a description of the chimney was available.

Block Captain Meeting: All agreed that a block captain meeting is necessary to "fire up" the current block captains and recruit new ones for blocks without captains. A suggestion of a mid-May meeting was made. Brian agreed to find out dates of availability at the clubhouse and announce the meeting in the next Crier.

Additional Business- Dunsmuir Gate: Villager (and former board member) Denise Hodges had emailed Brian volunteering to write an official letter to the City of Oakland on behalf of the Village requesting that the Dunsmuir Gate be extended out to discourage loitering and vandalism. She also volunteered to send a copy to Larry Reid. It was agreed that it would be a great idea and Brian said he would take a look at the letter on behalf of the board.

    Meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
